I did it and have been smoke free since 1998. First things first, dont beat yourself up if you cant do it the first time. It took me a few times to actually do it.
I didnt do it with gum or anything like that. I just gradually cut down and then I put a ''due'' date and stuck with it. When the day arrived I got rid of everything, cigarrettes and all out of the house.
My biggest advice to you is change your rutine. For instance, avoid all situations you used to smoke at for a while.
I used to smoke ALOT when I was out somewhere or after food or on the phone.
When I used to eat I used to light up right after. Well when I decided to quit, I would just get up from the table and busy myself with something else.
When on the phone instead of cigarettes I had a pad of paper and doodled.
Things like that. Changes.
Another thing I did was this. I put lots of cigarrette butts in a jar. Whenever the urge hit..I opened that jar and took a BIG whif. Trust me, the stench is enough to make you gag and go on your merry way forgetting bout those cigarrettes.
Wishing you good luck and congratulations on your decision to be smoke free!

Go to an acupuncturist. There are acupuncture points and herbs that can help alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal. As far as your husband is concerned, try to designate certain areas of the house that are ok places for him to smoke (preferably places where you do not spend much time). You want to avoid being around secondhand smoke as much as possible.
Once you have quit for awhile, challenge your husband to a hundred yard dash. The result may shame him into wanting to quit smoking as well.

My parents smoked non-filtered cigs all my life, at least 2 packs a day. They tried everything known to man to quit. Finally somone reccommended "SMOKEAWAY". It is the only product guaranteed to make you quit in 7 days. My dad quit in 3 and my mom in 4. That was 3 years ago, and they haven't even had an urge for one since.

When my heart started acting up. I now have atrial fibrillation. You don't want to have to quit for that reason, and tell your husband to quit too. I thought I could get away with it, I hardly smoked at all - most - four cigarettes a day. And I didn't smoke in the house. If your partner smokes, he's putting you at risk, and as your sinuses clear, you won't be able to stand the smell of cigarette smoke. I haven't smoked for nearly a year now.

Today is day number 11 for me. I have not had a cigarette in 11 days. I'm using the nicotine gum and sugarless hard candies. It was really hard the first couple of days, but is getting easier each day. I smoked two packs a day for 37 years. Good Luck!!

My aunt quit by cleaning a toilet every time she wanted a cig. I quit by taking a walk when I wanted one. We both used cinnamon candies--they give the same feeling on your tongue as what a cig does. Good luck! And if your husband doesn't want to quit when you do make him brush his teeth after every cigarrette. Soon it will be such a hassle that he will want to quit.
