I, too, am from Ohio, and I forgot about today being Sweetest Day until yesterday. Didn't realize so many other states didn't celebrate it...lucky them. Just another day to spend money on cards and flowers. My husband and I are just going out to dinner.

States do not 'celebrate' holidays like this, people do.
States honor days that have to do with historic issues or events. Sweetest Day was created by Hallmark in 1977 as they saw decreased card sales and needed to creat a market for sinking cash flow. I there for, do not 'celebrate' swettest day, but honor my loved ones each day, without paying cash, or credit, for it.

I grew up in Michigan and now live in Chicago and both states celebrate it - moreso Mich than IL. When I was in college (Ann Arbor, MI) there were many people from other states, NY and east coast mainly and they did not celebrate. It was sometimes funny to see guys from NY panic because they forgot sweetest day for their girlfriend from MI.

I think I had heard of it, but I didn't know anything about it. I don't believe Kansas has any 'official' celebrations...
