They are also widely used to give people who are poorly sighted or blind some enjoyment in life. If a person is unable to hold a book due to frailty they may also be used to relieve a carer from the situation so they can rest and the person being cared for can have some stimulation.

No it's not lazy. People listen to them while walking, exercising, driving to and from work and on long trips, and when they are working on different tasks. Audiobooks allow people who don't always have time to concentrate on just reading to enjoy good books.

No, I really dont think so, especially for young children. I remember when I was little and I would ask my mum to buy me those books with the tapes that went along with them, and they would take me to another world. I especially liked The 12 dancing princesses. I would read the book too, but I hope there are still things like that around when I have kids as I would like them to do for my kids what they did for me. xxxx

Depends on your circumstances. I like audiobooks when I'm driving or walking the dog. And my nan could see too well, so they were handy for her.
Also some audiobooks are just fab, especially ones read by Stephen Fry.

No, my husband has cancer and gets bored just watching tv so when his brother got him started on the Mitford books by Jan Karon on tape, it gave him something to be interested in and helped his quality of life.

I don't think so. It's hard to read, drink coffee, eat, talk on the phone and drive at the same time. So every little bit helps.

No. Very handy if you are knitting or sewing.
Also a good way of reading before dropping off to sleep.
