As a youth at the age of 13, I was left only to the dark and miserable downtown streets of my city. I am 20 now and trying to leave the terrible memories behind. In doing so, I cut myself off from all the "street" friends I aquired during those years. Now my life has changed. I haven't had any real friends for almost a year. My free time consists of watching T.V. , surfing the net and reading books, all of course at home. I want to make new friends, but I am not sure if after all these years I will attract the same breed of friends I had before. How can I make a true, genuine friend? This may seem silly to most who take friends for granted, but this is all to serious and I need some advice.

To have a true friend, be a true friend. Find some people with whom you share hobbies (join a club, for instance) and go out of your way to help others. There's more happiness in giving than in receiving. You won't find any friends if you stay holed up at home all day. It's hard, I know, but the more you do it the easier it gets. Good luck!

first, you should go out and meet the world. you cannot find friends just holing up in your house all day. in order to meet a true and genuine friend, you have to be true and genuine too! at your age and with the experience you had when you were 13, i am sure that you have grown a bit matured and can now choose between what is good and bad for you. as the saying goes, "TELL ME WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE AND I WILL TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE!"

Yeah we all ask that one. meet ppl at ur work and church. Sometimes that works out. If they look nice and not gang type then u may have a chance to make a friend. Sometimes the good ones start showin up around u. Be patient with ur life and enjoy what u r doing.

The only way to get out into the world is to start doing something with your life, take up a new hobby, mountain climbing, dancing, do some sort of course..... because friends won't come knocking on your door. i wish you the best of luck and well done for turning your life around!!

A good place to find them is a good church. Be a friend to get one.

Try moving to the suburbs, they don't have too many drugees over there, and they seem like good people.
