I know that you can pause, rewind, forward using TiVo I just want to know how far ahead in the day can you forward to a show. Are you only able to forward far enough to the programming that ends at 12:00am or can you forward to like the next day?

You can only fast-forward till you "catch up" with the show you're watching -- you can't see programming that hasn't come down the cable to your TV yet (that's closer to "on-demand" viewing which many cable providers are offering). Think about it -- could you watch tomorrow's news now? (If you can, mail me the stock prices and the winning lottery numbers, please! :-)

However, TiVo downloads the program listings for all your available channels, usually for up to about two weeks in advance. So while you can't watch something on Friday that doesn't play till the following Tuesday, you can set your TiVo to record it for you.

And setting it is really simple: you scroll up and down through the listings till you see something you're interested in -- let's say it's "The Maltese Falcon" on Thursday at 2 AM. So you click on the listing, it shows you the details of the movie, and it highlights a link that says "Record." You click the main button on the remote, and that's it. Now at 2 AM on Tuesday, your TiVo will go to that channel and start recording. When you wake up on Wednesday, you'll be able to watch Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and Sidney Greenstreet chasing "the stuff that dreams are made of."

We have a pretty full "to-do" list on our TiVo, especially with AMC and TMC showing so many old horror and suspense classics for Hallowe'en. You can also search through a complete listing, sorting by category, and lots more. TiVo has completely revolutionized how we watch TV -- and has since the first time my wife and I were watching "CSI" and our daughter needed something. We paused TV, took care of our daughter, came back, and hadn't missed a thing.

you can't watch programming that hasn't aired yet. Tivo constantly has the last 30 minutes that aired in it's memory so you can rewind it back that far at any time, but you can't go forward to something that hasn't aired yet.

The guide will show you everything that's available for the next 2 weeks I believe, but you can't watch it until it airs.
