Is there a Basic Travel Allowance for U.K. citizens to fly internationally from London/Heathrow airport? Is this a scam?

She is a U.K. citizen and is flying from London/Heathrow to Doha, Qatar. She said that the London/Heathrow customs said that she had to have no less than 700 pounds to board the flight to Doha, Qatar. Is there such a requirement for U.K. citizens?

I have done a search and can't find "Basic Travel Allowance" anywhere.
Do you mean, she must have some money on her when she lands to show she can support herself ? If this is what you mean, then NO. Such a thing became redundant with credit cards and cash machines.

Never heard of it....some countries such as the US require you to prove that you can support yourself for the time of your stay. Travelling to the States 5-6 times a year myself I have never been asked the question but I know it is in the small print. In simple terms arriving in the States without a pot to piss in is not going to go down well with the immigration officers because they will immediatley think you are going to work...
