There are characters that cannot be used either for I.D. or passwords. Try something else. It is the same with other e-mail I.D. and passwords. They usually give you another choice. It does not mean they stole it from you. Sometimes, it is not available because someone else has it already.

that is cause your are attempting to write in what they call symbol html code.....the software is recognzing that you are attempting to enter HTML and it is stopping it.
