If you're in the U.S., there are many motorcycle mechanics colleges across the nation. MMI is probably the most popular: http://www.uticorp.com/default.aspx?tabid=256
but many local colleges have excellent small engine training courses.

It depends quite a bit on what type of work you're interested in also, as to where you go afterwards - but a basic course from any of these schools would be the best place to start.

After that, if you're wanting to work at a local dealership, then contact them, tell them what you've done so far, and what else they're looking for in their mechanics.

Keep in mind that most local small-engine mechanics don't make very much money. Machinists and technicians with more training can make a better living, and get great jobs in the aftermarket industry.

Basically, just like every line of work, the more education you get, the better off you'll be.
