Since this was in the math section, I'll give a mathematical way of finding the answer. First, consider that the same day of the year will advance 1 day a year, 2 if a leap day is crossed. This is because in a normal year, there are 364 + 1 = 91*7 + 1 days, and in a leap year there are 364 + 2 = 91*7 + 2 days. For example:
June 12th, 2002 --> June 12th 2003 = 1 day of the week
April 18th, 1999 --> April 18th 2000 = 2 days of the week

So, any 4-year intervention gives a 5-day advance, assuming non-leap day century years are not involved, which they are not in this problem. Now, a 28-year advance gives a 35-day advance, which is equivalent to a 0-day advance. This means that because 1976 + 28 = 2004, any day in 1976 falls on the same day of the week in the 2004. Advancing 2 years to 2006 corresponds in our problem to a 2-day advance, since no leap days intervene. Now we shift our focus to months. Passing through the end of a long month gives a 3-day advance, and a regular one a 2-day advance. Month ends passed through are July (3 days) August(3 days), and September(2 days), for a total of 8 days, or 1 day.

Lets review:
July 4 1976 --> July 4 2006 = 2 days of the week
July 4 2006 --> October 4 2006 = 1 day of the week

Now advance 9 days (2 days of the week), and we have :
July 4 1976 --> October 13 = 5 days of the week.

Since October 13 was a friday this year (Friday the 13th :) ), July 4 1976 was 5 days of the week before friday, which is sunday.

the doctor would not tell her to wait 2 weeks that's a load of crap, either its a fib or the doctor is crap. i have had 7 miscarriage which required D&C's, which is the same operation of that of an abortion - if u fall preg before atleast 6 weeks miscarriage is a major risk. the doctor would say "try" to wait 2-3 months. any way pregnancy levels take between 2/4 weeks to decrease (depending on how far along). i miscarried 3 weeks ago and my levels are nearly back to normal. I'll have my last blood test this arvo to see if they're gone and if they're not i have to have a D&C (i was 7 weeks) I doubt she is carrying again but if by chance she is (which the doctor should have told her not to have unprotected sex for ATLEAST 2 weeks to avoid infection) the she is high risk, tell her to see a doctor.
