for me at least, the anticipation... the build up... having something to look forward to be it a social gathering or the end of a tedious work project... I personally find that more often than not, the actual event is an anticlimax... I feel that way about sex, too... the buildup to me is more exciting than getting to where I am going...
goes back to the basic question... is life a journey or a destination? once you reach the destination, it's over... not always in a permanent way but then you gotta start again...
I enjoy the process and in those times that the actual event surpasses the anticipation, that's just like icing on the cake for me
