They aren't really pores, rather they are protein channels embedded in the cell membrane that work to get particles and molecules into and out of the cell. Each channel is specific for a type of particle/molecule. For instance, each ion type that goes through a channel uses a specific channel(s). Since ions are different in size, so are the ion pump channels in the membrane. I hope this helps.
