If i were the prime minister mmmm... sounds like a primary school project. Are you TB in trying to find out what you did wrong?

The first thing that I would do is close the borders to immigration, following the same lines as the Swiss, and impose strict rules on benefit's.

I would then abolish road tax but instead put it on the price of petrol. that way everyone pays dependant on how much you use your car.

I would put the NHS under review with a main focus in cutting out the financial consultants and managers and bring back matrons.

As for education abolish top up fees and bring in some form of scholarship schemes

And most of all pull out of Europe!

and that's only the beginning

I would completely reorganise the way the government works

The present method of governing Britain is out of date

My idea is that we need a complete revamp in government. Not just change the people, but completely change the way we think about government.
When the current system of democracy was created the population of England was about a sixth of what it is now. So there were 659 MPs for about 10 million people, being a representation ratio of about 15000 to 1.

Now, we have 646 MPs, and about 60 million people giving a representation factor of about 93,000 to one.

So each person's representation has reduced by around 600%.
In other words, you now get about one sixth of the representation that a citizen in 1801 got. Another way of looking at this is to say that, in order to have the same level of representation that we had in 1801, we would need 3876 MPs.
This is obviously ludicrous. and is absolute evidence of a need for a change.

As the population has increased so dramatically, then the effectiveness and fairness of a central government has reduced.
What we now need is an increase in the power of local government, and a reduction in the power of central government.
I propose that we should bring back something akin to the parish councils. We should have constituencies of a maximum of 500 families. These constituencies should have total control over the lives of its constituents, with no interference from outside, They must provide all of their own facilities such as school, health care, pensions, police, ar anything which they feel that they need.
If they feel that they are too small for a particular project or service, then they negotiate with nearby constituencies to make suitable arrangements. There would be no higher level arbitrator. Full responsibility would rest at the local level.

The benefits of this are enormous. Firstly, everybody would know everybody else within a constituency, so when a problem arises it would be easy to get to the source, because it would be to everyone's benefit to do so. This alone would reduce terrorism and serious crime to a minimum. A sort of neighbourhood watch scheme in which everybody takes full part, and makes the decisions. The money presently spent on taxes, most of which disappears in red tape, civil servants' and MPs' salaries, waging war, and hundreds of other expenses from which the average citizen receives no benefit whatsoever, would be spent on directly benefiting the community, on projects voted for by the community.
It is most likely that taxes could be reduced to a fraction of what is presently paid, because all wastage would be readily identified. Everybody would participate in their own government, because they would be able to understand it, and would have a real voice.
There would be no need for secret services, or secrets of any kind, saving another fortune, and removing another load of confusion.
We would overcome the problems created by too much power in too few hands

I'm sure you can identify many other benefits, and I'm also sure that any disadvantages could quickly be overcome.

Get rid of the human rights first and foremost. All illegal immigrants to be sent back,. Anyone wanting to come and live here, must prove that they can keep themselves as they would not be eligible for handouts. I would like to be able to put the pensions up for the elderly, drop University fees. Make sure the NHS was not cash strapped. Lottery Grants to be given to NHS, Schools, not some farmer in far out Peru. Road Tax to be spent on the roads. Tax Relief. That's what I would like to do, but would need to see what was left in the coffers once dear Tony was out!

Focus more on responsibilities than rights.

I would open more prisons, and increase the minimum sentence for most crimes - especially antisocial crimes and car crimes - I do not think joyriders who kill should be treated any different that calculating murders.

I would give more rights to fathers - just because Mothers usually get custody, doesn't mean that men should be overlooked. Unless there is clear evidence as to why fathers should be kept from their children, men should have complete access to their children.

I would give more power to the people. I trust the law-abiding majority and therefore would ask for public opinion on things such as dealing with terrorism, foreign policy and the EU.

I would totally restructure the benefits system. More money to pensioners who have worked all their lives.
I would make it harder for people to be out of work. I'd bring back food vouchers instead of just doling out money.

I would honour our war veterans and people who have given everything for this country. Healthcare for the elderly would be free - I wouldn't make people sell their houses to pay for care.

I would tighten our borders - people would have to prove they can speak English and offer a valuable skill to enter.

I would promote business and try and encourage people to set up on their own.

I would build the National Health service back up to standard, it was once the envy of the world. I would take a cut in wages and cut the wages of all other MP's, that would make me popular.
I would improve the education system and bring back apprenticeships, cater for all educational needs. Provide quality care for the elderly. Cut the working week to three days. Abolish snobbery.

The next Prime Minister OF Australia I think you mean? I fear Howard will pull something dishonest at the last minute again, but Rudd is who I'm backing.

I would lower taxes work on getting the deficit paid off. Make it harder for people to get welfare, they would have to work in order to get a cheque from the government for sitting on their butt, even if it is collecting garbage or cutting grass or house cleaning maybe even visiting old age homes to sit with people or help get their meals ready. I would make strict laws against immigrants coming to the country and i would fight to bring back the Death Penalty. I would also make a law that children over the age of 8 years old can decide who they want to live with instead of a judge deciding because most give them to the mothers when they should go with the dad, or make it that all parents share the responsibility of the kids they stay with mom one week dad the next .

Pass a law that makes sure that all people who wanted to be social workers had a bit of experience in life first.
I hate people who come straight out of college or university and think that is is their right in life to tell people how to run their lives. I have dealt with social workers in my professionally and the one's I came in touch with were an arrogant bunch of no nothing's .
