yes. If you float face down you will not be able to breath.

Hmmm. Sort of makes for a good plot for a novel, doesn't it?

We could have Clive Cussler discovering a wreck or a whole civilization down there. Makes for "great" diving conditions.

Alternatively, a simple murder and disposal of the body with a few weights to sink the body... Wonder how many of those there are there...

As a bit of information, during the Second World War quite a few paratroopers that dropped into Europe had the misfortune of drowning in very few inches of water because of the weight of their equipment pinning them face down in the marshes they landed in. Now, I don't remember if that was at Arnhem, or at Normandy or both. Many thanks to everybody who jumped and served, for without them, we would not be sitting here enjoying life as we know it.

It is likely that your natural reflexes may prevent you from drowning, even if face down. In other words, unless incapacitated in some way, there would be a natural tendency to lift your head up out of the water to prevent yourself from drowning.
It is still possible to drown, but I think you would need to be incapacitated - e.g. unconcious when in the water; or held down beneath the surface of the water.
This natural reflex is present in (almost) all of us, but is only developed at about the age of 3, which is why it is extremely dangerous for very young children and babies to be around water. They can drown much more easily, because they simply don't bring their head up out of the water.

yes it's possible, but not 2 sink. if you were to hold your head in the water then you'd drown but it's very difficult to just push your head through so you'd have to hold it down or have someone else do it. so it's not possible to drown accidently in the dead sea. although if you tried hard enough im sure it'd work but then again your body would just float to the top again!

It is not possible to drown in the Dead Sea because:

The Dead Sea (Arabic: البحر الميت‎; Hebrew: ים המלח) is both the lowest point in Eurasia at 418 metres (1,371 ft) below sea level and falling[2], and the deepest hypersaline lake in the world at 330 m (1,083 ft) deep and 799 m (2,621 ft) below sea level. It is also one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth with a salinity of about 30%.

So, it is true in respect of salinity because of density difference.
But if consume enough of saline water and resultant density is more than the sea water , then it is possible.

i think not...tat d oni way if die...lie d face down..dis will cause dead...all d way tat can make u high density than d dead sea is d way 2 drown in the dead sea...u can use d formula 2 calculate it..bouyant force...Fb=pVg...densityxvolumexgravity force....c whether heavy or light than can determine can drown anot...

yes it is possible as it is still water, but of course very difficult: as a side line I saw a girl who did not float on the water she was Korean, very small and stocky
