Ive watched american football and find i dont despise it as much as most brits. Find it a cross between chees and rugby. The stop- start nature loses it a lot of support and the fact that whenever the ball changes pocession the entire team is changed. Not exactly versatile players.

Im seeing support for the game from the americans but it does take like 3 hours to play one hour of game time. And everytime someone drops the ball seems to be an excuse to advertise met-rx or the new dodge ram.

Im going to defend soccer here which is something i rarely do. Its a tough game and you are flat out for 45 minutes with a 15 minute half time then another 45 minutes. Theres no stopping every 30 seconds for some gatorade! Unfortunately it is full of very under-educated, overpaid, arrogant people that seem to have the same personality (or lack of). Its a great game, i just cant stand the people that play it. But american seem to obsessed with constant scoring. You have to work for every goal in soccer and you dont get to call a 'time out' when things arn't going your way.

Football is very much a cross between chess and rugby. It's a thinking man's game. As you know from watching it, formations and even players are sometimes changed between individual plays, which is why play stops for thirty seconds after every down. To address your comment about the players not being versatile, in the early days, it wasn't uncommon at all for players to play a position on the offense and the defense. But as players improved, positions became more and more specialized until it became almost impossible to compete on both sides of the ball. These guys have a hell of a lot to remember too, they have entire playbooks and have to remember where they're supposed to be and who they're supposed to cover on every play, to do that on both sides of the ball would just be too much, they would start risking mistakes. And lastly, someone on here said that Rugby players would do well in the nfl, but that nfl players couldn't compete in rugby, well, that's just dumb. If Rugby players could actually compete in the nfl, they would. NFL players get paid a hell of a lot more money than any Rugby player. Rugby players have come to the nfl and made it as kickers, but usually Rugby players are what they would call "inbetweeners" meaning they are too big and not fast enough to be recievers, and they are fast enough but too small to be linebackers.

.The game is played with so much passion it is like our football. Our game is probably boring to a lot of people too because it is simply kicking a ball from one end of the field to the other and all we do is that. American football is trying to run or pass a ball to the other end of the field. The fans participate in this game more than in a football match because the more noise there is then the more awkward it is for the visiting team to get their required ten yards to get a first down. Hope i was of some help

I believe that football is a lot like soccer. In America kids grow up watching football rather than soccer and admire the NFL superstars. It's the same thing with soccer in Europe. I am a fan of most sports and I do enjoy watching football. There is something about it that makes me want to watch it more than any other sport. This may be because the schedule is only 16 games long so each game is important.

Actually it is not exactly like Rugby. It is way different than Rugby. Rugby, men are bunch up together, but in American Football they cover and tackle the opposite team.

When the ball changes possession either the team punt the ball or they either go on 4th down and not make the 1st down, then the opposite team gets the football on 1st down (their possession).

American Football is more protective, but the hits are more worse than Rugby I think!

American football has taken many of its ideas from the days of Gladiators.

Designed with men in mind - controlled aggression with a TEAM ethic - and has the added advantage of being a game that you can go for a p**s during the frequent Ads.

Have you noticed the Ads are now getting longer to allow women to use the toilet, get us a beer and make snacks.

God bless America and their Footie.

I've watched the game a lot and although it has lost it's appeal to me, It does have a lot to offer if you scrutinise game plays closely. Like football, the game is like chess. You try to foresee your opponents moves and how to counter them. I would say, watching it from the sidelines is boring but if you watch it on TV then it is quite interesting. Most games can be boring to some people. Like golf or cricket. But if you've played the game and understand how difficult it is, you appreciate the game more, and that is when it is interesting. Unless you've played the game, you cannot really express an opinion on it. Otherwise you are doing it through ignorance.

I quite like it it but its no comparison to rugby league.

Only the wide recievers and line backers would be able to make any significant impact if they were to switch to rugby where as I would think that a considerably more rugby players would be able to make the change to Nfl.

On the other hand the american footie players do have a lot of plays to remember but then again like you say its stop start so they have time to remember.

All in all though. I like NFL and find it quite exiting.

i love it, every sunday sky sports it on the TV and i hide the remote!

The gam is a lot more tactical than rugby and the roll-on/roll off nature of players adds to the level of the game as you get killer match ups between the best offense and the best d-fence.

Im a huge philly eagals fan since i saw a game on holiday over there
