today on the news is a horrific story about a 19 month old baby boy mown down and killed by two 14 year old joyriders in a stolen jeep...his mother and 10 month old baby brother survived....i know what i'd do to these two kids....but it would be against the law....what should be done to stop something like this happening again and what punishment should they get? 3 years ago a 13 year old boy was also killed by joyriders in the same area by a 15 year old joyrider....i feel so sad for this family...i cannot imagine what this poor family are going through, but these two lads should be severely punished...thats my opinion

The justice system ought to get back to basics here-it is FAR too soft on criminality.Life for killing some one,by whatever means, should mean life-it is just not fair on victims, who have to suffer a life sentence, whether they like it or not.If capital punishment cannot be brought back in this country, then the next best thing surely is to invoke PROPER life sentencing for killings(in what ever context)People RUTHLESSLY kill other people, therefore justice should be ruthless in its powers of punishment-and no leeway.

The system is soft and hence the increase in youth crime. They are hard to nail, and even if they do get caught the social look after them. The law is not strong enough and the penalties are too leinient. The cost is prohibitive to us all and even though some places exist to treat and help they are all overcrowded.
Whole thing needs looked at and now but the heatbreak of such a thing will last forever for the parents.

yNo one can express how sad and mad we feel when something like this happens. I blame our government for the lack of punishment that they are given. I always thought a life meant life!!

These boys will get away with what they have done because of their age, but as far as I'm concerned they deserve a hard punishment. They know its unsafe to drive a car so they can take some of the blame.

My heart goes out to all the families that have lost loved ones through joy riders.

i was in my mates car wiv him 2 and a half years ago and had a head on collision wiv 4 joyriders. we were doing just over 20mph they were doing 70mph. how we weren`t killed is beyond me. considering how fast they were going is a miracle that me and my mate only had whiplash to the neck, minor shoulder injuries, lower back injuries and i had my feet up on the dash board because they were going so fast i thought the engine was going to end up crushed into my legs and i had a groin injury. both me and my mate went into shock in front of all the police that turned up. it`s all still going through the courts but if i`m honest wiv u these boys still don`t care and i`m considering paying each one a visit in person to give them the hiding of their lives. they were all 17 years old at the time. as they were running off they found it hilarious. i`m in no way a violent man but the road where it happened was where my mate lives and it`s a very very quiet road and u get youngsters out playing football and generally doing wot kids do. it could well have been them that were hit. the police told me that the driver of their car has done this loads of times and all he`ll probably get is a fine like all the other times plus yet another ban on top of wot he`s already got. that`s nothing considering wot they did to me and my mate. it`s absolutely no deterrant at all! my mate got paid out £3300 but my injuries are still on going but i don`t expect to get that much but it`s not about money. these boys are repeat offenders and i think they should pay dearly. a total of 5 cars were written off in that accident because it`s a narrow road and the impact threw our car up in the air and we landed on other parked cars. the courts should inprison these idiots but they wont and i think they should get a minimum of 10 years. both me and my mate still can`t believe we actually walked away from that wiv the minor injuries that we had. because my back injury still hasn`t healed the doctor told me i`ll probably carry that injury for life. oh and the police officer told us that if we`d been just 20yards further on we probably wouldn`t of survived and they also confirmed that by measuring the skid marks that they were doing 70mph

It is a sad thing that happened. I know nothing will bring back those kids. I think accidents happen and they should pay a price for it , but I also believe in second chances. I think if they are truly remorseful for their actions something should be worked out to where they pay their debt to society and still have a chance to turn their lives around for the better.

the laws on joy riding and dangerous driving offences should be much tougher, with at least a lifetime ban on driving as well as cutodial sentences. I'm sure that would make a difference, even if it were a small percentage, as some would be put off by the consequences if they were to last a life time.

I fell the same way, to meany kids get away with stuff because the parents say "they did not mean to there just babies" and the parents dont whant to step up and see the truth that ther kid need help now or they will only get in more trouple and when they grow up and becom adults they thaink they ought to get a free ride.

I'd let the bereaved families 'have a go' at them or I'd line them up against a wall and frighten the s*** out of them by getting some learner drivers to drive at them in order to practise emergency stops!

Life in Prison with no parole. They are not allowed out of their cell (which is 4ft x 4ft x 6ft tall), recieve three simple meals a day and their choice of entertainment is to sit in their cell and do nothing (which isn't as fun as it sounds) or to watch home videos of the victim over and over (unless they have shown no remorse, then just the doing nothing thing).

No, that may no longer a hate crime. that is inspired via technique of hate, besides the fact that it somewhat is not any extra yet near to a criminal crime - so a concepts it somewhat is such schoolyard teasing. you will possibly be able to record the comments and harassment on your instructor and mandatory, as properly as your mum and dad. the faculty can then self-discipline those babies. If the harassment maintains after the faculty has exerted its authority, easily then are you able to take the priority to the police and record a lawsuit.
