I am in my 60s, southernborn and white. There are at least 2 black people that I would vote for for president. I expect to see a black as either president or vice-prsident within the next 3 elections.. I believe that having a black president would be just like having a republican or a Democrat. No matter what, some people are going to complain and say we are going to hell in a handbasket.

Could he be hated any worse than the Dems hate Bush? No. Would someone make a film of him being assassinated like the Dems did about Bush? Certainly not. Actually, I would argue that we're ready for a black man as president way before a woman. But it all depends on the black man. First off, he'd have to be a Republican, not a Democrat. Republican issues about religion, family, self-reliance, and so forth are really black issues as well. The Dems have too long kept black people subservient to the state by given them little measly welfare handouts and busting up black families. Plus if he was a Democrat running for president, he'd be forced to say gay marriage is cool, and the ice caps are melting so we're all gonna drown, and Osama bin Laden ain't really such a bad guy. That's not gonna happen. And if I may make a bold prediction, if a black man ran for president, far more southern whites would vote for him than northeastern whites. He may do well in New Hampshire, but in the more liberal states, no way. But if the black man had the charisma of Michael Jordan and the oratorical skills of Martin Luther King, and he was a Republican, he'd be unbeatable. And I'm speaking as a white Republican. Oh, yes, I almost forgot. Wasn't Bill Clinton proclaimed as "the first Black President"? By none other than Maya Anjelou? Because of all the wonderful things he did for black people? You remember what those were, right?

Nothing different. Because he or she will be a President/ AKA politician, and hence will be no different than any other politician. Black, white, Brown, blue or purple, they are all the same. They do what they need to do, and think it is for the best of the country, not necessarily it is going to be the best.
They may do well, and they may make mistakes, and we the public are the one who will end up paying for it, with our well being or our own kids.
BY the way, I gave you a thumb up for your question, to counter effect the thumb down. Some people are not willing to ask what if there was a black president.

Personally I am voting for Barack Obrama if he runs. Time for America to grow up and face reality. I wouldn't vote for Jackson, but I would vote for Colin Powell if he ran also. It is the man or woman, their vision of America that I am concerned about, not the race card, religion, or all that other elementary mentality that causes problems. I would vote for Bill Richardson (Governor of New Mexico) if he ran. We do need someone that is young, has modern ideas, and believes in diplomacy before the bombs are dropped. I know 100% that I will not vote for anyone that Bush endorses!
What do I think? Some cry babies, perhaps worse, but they will come from people that wear mask, and can't face problems man to man!
By the way I am Italian-American.

I think Condi Rice would make a great President. There are some closed minded people out there who would make an issue of race/gender. The good news is that those type of people usually don't vote anyway.

It would never happen. The world isn't ready for a black president. Maybe one day when we can all take a step back and see someone for who they are and not what color they are, maybe then. But I don't hold out hope that it will happen in my lifetime.

What difference does it make if the president was black??? In my own opinion I think that as long as you have someone who cares about this country and makes good wise decisions I wouldn't care who they were.

I don't think anyone would care. S/he would have to have had a lot of support to be elected, or problaby every one would be fine with it, as much as they are with any other president anyway.
It amazes me that people from other countries think the US all race riots all the time. Those of us who live here know better.
