Because we feel comfortable with material possessions - they make our life here on Earth easier.
There are so many multiple hundreds of millions on Earth now that do not have even the basics of these possessions and they suffer greatly for it. I am happy to have just a roof over my head and some food to eat.

Hmm, two points.
a) You are assuming that we do in fact go to some other place.
b) Whilst here, should we not be able to enjoy the fruits of our labours - what point would there be in the labouring if we could not hold some enjoyment as a result.
So long as the garnering and possessing of material possessions does not stand as the sum-total of our self worth, nor dominate/posses us as a person, then no harm is ever done.

We and every one else have as long as we live need these material things to make our living comfortable,
Excess in any form is discontentment
It takes a great effort to be content.
Greed grows with out the will to be content.
This is our weakness so common in many.
Are you having this quality of being content with what ever you have.

Material possessions are used to simplify things and make life comfortable not to enslave us. They can be used as a means in searching for higher or spiritual purpose rather than as an end.

We accumulate material possessions to give us, what we may consider, a more enjoyable life on earth. The trick is not to become too attached to them, because as you said, we will one day leave them all behind.

It's something to do. Working to acquire money and material possessions. Imagine if there was no need to work or do anything for the rest of our lives...what a boring and uneventul world that would be!

Accumulate material possession and enjoy them while still alive, if they do not finish before you die still no problem you enjoyed.

Material posessions satisfy our human desire for power, greatness, and tangible accomplishments. They give us the means to better (hopefully) the circumstances of our families, once we move on. It's never our soul that wants that brand new shiny object, i believe it's strictly our 'human' desire. Even crows collect shiny things - they just look pretty and interesting.

I agree with you. Humans just make life so damn difficult! All we need to do is eat, drink, sleep, mate, and fight. We are animals too. And because of society alot of people are affraid to mate because... I dunno. Picky little *****. But it is fun to have stuff that we don't need right? Like this laptop, and the internet... I could out mating with my b.f. or eating/drinking, maybe sleeping/fighting , but this is a better waste of my time.
