If in the end, we all die and move on to another place, why do we bother to accumulate material possesions?

1. For many, It's something to do. Accumulating wealth, collections, or even pretty flowers for the garden occupies time.
2. Perpetuation of the family. Leaving something for one's descendants makes for healthier descendants.
3. Learning - Most accumulation requires education and possibly exploration, which is inherently a desire of humans. This includes both formal and "street" smarts. Sometimes it's the journey, not the destination.
4. Immortality - Humans are under the false belief that leaving things brings immortality to their memory. Not usually true though.
5. Comfort - All humans desire comfort. Many material possessions provide that comfort, if only in this life.

This is a good question, I am not sure, but have often wondered that, especially when I have lost alot of family to the "other side" and they have left their belongings behind. But I am hoping that the place we do eventually wind up will be so much better than this life. I just hope to see my family again and my friends that have passed.

They make life pleasant here, but you're right, you can't take it with you. As Jesus said, don't accumulate wealth in this life, where thieves can break in and steal them, but store up your treasure in heaven!
