I realize there is longstanding debate about this, and am curious what the current thinking is.

Race might have been an ignorant man's rationalization a century ago but no more. The genetics that produce the characteristics seen as 'race' are so trivial as to be irrelevant. After all, chimpanzees have 99% the same genes as us and they aren't even the genus Homo.
Secondly, races have always interbred on the continental borders or else we Humans would be several species. Since the jet liner has connected every city in the world by mere hours there is no limit to interbreeding. And the one time moral pretense against intermarriage is no longer there either. This is healthy, as increasing the gene pool of any species improves it's viability.
Finally, I was tempted to answer with some smart remark disparaging your parentage. I presume your parents never taught you as mine did, "There are good and bad in all kinds." I refrained from that. Essentially, I am talking about tolerance. In this modern world we dare no longer consider ourselves as races or nations or religions but only as humans. We are all humans, and we all need to learn to live together, be free, and value each other equally.

No race should be considered 'lesser' than another. There are definatly minorities in certain areas, but that has to do with how many of a certain race live there, not if one is better or worse than another.

Racism is a big problem in the world today. It causes tensions and wars, like the ethnic clensing going on in Darfur. If mankind can get past these barriers we can finally get along as the HUMAN race, and not fight each other as to whom is better.

This is only a long standing debate to people who don't know anything about race.
1. Race is not real. Race is purely a social concept that is literaly only skin deep. Anthropolgists, Biologists, and all life scientists agree that the concept of "race" can not be defined in scientific terms.
2. The idea of a "lesser race" denotes that another race is superior. So basically your talking social darwinism, eugenics, and facism. So by entertaining the idea of lesser and greater races, your basically being a racist.

Kind of a dumb question. What difference does it make? Everyone was created by the same God so how can anyone be considered "lesser?" That's the problem with the world today. We've forgotten the fact that we're all brothers and sisters in the grand scheme of things.

How about a little hint: If it were not for all the races contributing to the post Roman system in existance, you would have disproportionately less luxuries at you disposal. I will not even give the grace of knowing what you would not have if black folks did not create. Do a little research on all races and inventions, you might be surprised at the company you are in.

Egg-and-spoon, sack-race, three-legged race...

You're not serious, are you?
I can't believe that if you are talking about races of people, this question wasn't removed, or that anyone would seriously attempt to answer it. Human beings are human beings; how can any be "lesser"?

Of course answers to this question will depend upon whom is answering and where they live (i.e., U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, etc.)

There will never be a consensus to this question, that's why it's such a longlasting debate.
