People are dying of diseases. People are killing one another. Cruelty and inhumanity are rampid. People are suffering. Nobody has a solution. Yet, you listen to some "select" folk and the world is just dandy. Do you see the process of degeneration? How can humanity perpetuate when the very laws of thermodynamics stand adamantly against it? How can you see progress, when there is decay all around? What do you see? Evaluate your world.

I think this is more of you getting your own opinion across, rather than asking a question.

Usually when people say the world is great, they mean their own little part of the world, in which everything might be fine.

Why do the laws of thermodynamics stand against humanity? They're completely different subjects in entirely unrelated fields!

When you say decay, what do you mean? Things rot, but they've already served their use - ie, bodies, fruit etc. No-one can accurately pin the word "decaying" onto our world or society, as it does nothing but grow - economically; in terms of population, despite wars; and in terms of civilization.

Don't try and be clever by throwing hyperbolic poetry into your questions - it only serves to show that you haven't truly thought about what you're saying.

Personally I would rate the world a C. Good points, bad points. My own life is a B at the moment. For innocents being killed in wars, it's Ungraded. The world is such a huge place no balanced grading or average can be honest to the lifetsyles of the 6 billion people on it.

Thats the problem. The world its self is a living organism complex as it is. All living things are dieing from the second of thier birth. Its natural. You are right the world just seems to be falling apart. Do you believe that the media has allowed more wide spread coverage, and these things have been going on for a long time? My observation in Wisconsin is the seasons are starting to slide aroound the calandar. fall is early spring is early winter is calm. Something is going on. Oh yeah, and some choose to ignore the signs or do they have thier heads up thier ***' so far that they just miss those things?

Well, since we are much more in touch with our surroundings it seems as if this world is worse than it ever has been yet that is not true. Look to the days of Stalin, Hitler, even before that when Rome was completely rampid with immoral and evil activity. The world has always been terrible, its just up to you and me to make it that much better.

Honestly, I see a world in a period of adolescence.

I think those who see only decay and negativity are morbid, lacking any sense of beauty and hope.

On the other hand, those who would say that there is nothing wrong are equally deluded.

So why do I describe the world as being in a period of adolescence? Teenagers are usually at a stage in their development where they are most focused on their own needs; their passions run high and tempers are volatile. But at the same time, they can still be capable of surprising compassion and empathy, as well as usually being deeply loyal to those whom they feel worthy of it.

Human society is still young in the grand scheme of things - we still have much to learn in the way we treat each other, but then growth comes over time.

Oh, and Freebird, if you are such a "wise" Christian yourself, maybe it would be better to answer such questions without:

a) automatically assuming that this person actually shares your faith (as i saw no mention of religion in the question posed); and secondly

b) without publicly casting insults such as "egotist" - there is nothing godly in belittling others for posing a legitimate (and well thought out) question. Such behaviour only belittles yourself and shames your faith!

I assume from the context of your question that you are framing this as a comparison of the past "world" to the present state. Get over your false sense of entitlement to a perfect world, and acknowledge the inevitable need to struggle for survival just like all the past peoples and cultures.

What an egotist. Because your entitled vision of personal security is not perfect, you think its because the whole world is a failure? I don't see you moaning about the degradation of the world because the Roman empire fell (or the Greeks, Carthegenians, Incan, Minoans, Easter Island, Ming Dynasty, Hopi, Etruscans, etc). I'm sure the occupants of those eras felt the same way, yet you're acting as if they lived in the good ol' days.

The bible describes this: (Psalms - Paraphrased) "To everything, there is a season. A time to live, a time to die, a time to reap, a time to sow. . ." Whether you read this from the religious standpoint, philisophical standpoint, or simply as a good "Lion King" plot, it points out that loss and death is as much a part of a life cycle as life and gain.

But overall, things are better now than ever:

"People are dying of disease" - But now they live longer and healthier than ever before.
"People are killing each other" - But as a percentage of world population, they kill less of each other than ever before.
"people are suffering . . . No solution" - But any given person on this world has a better chance to improve their personal condition than ever before. There is far less slavery, child explotation, or pandemic disease than ever before. As a population, any given person in the most impoverished nation on the planet lives longer than any given person on this world did 500 years ago.

"Process of degeneration . .. etc." - No, I see a cycle of life. Life begins, life ends. Cultures begin, culture end.

Of course there are problems with the environment, etc., but there have always been these problems. Some will be solved, some won't. But that's not a recent condition (ask the Mayans, the inhabitants of Easter Island, Egyptians, or the Minoans whose entire cultures were ravaged by environmental pressures). But that's not a sign of worldwide degeneration, just a signal that this generation is not invincible.

Hey kanis.lupus (aka Dog) , I'm an atheist. The biblical reference, like the Lion King reference, is an illustration of the cyclical nature of life, not of faith. I used the bible because, whether or not you believe in its religion, it does contain many valid 2000-year-old references to the human condition, including the subject in the question (For future reference, if I reference Shakespeare, I'm not English either). Nowhere do I justify the answer he requested with "God". In fact, I clearly show factually why I gave the answer that I did. But thanks for the reference to my answer in yours, I got more readers that way.

And seeing as your own posted questions contain the words "Stupid", and "arrogant", you're the last person qualified to lecture me.

I would say the world is in very bad shape and getting worse. There seems to be no solution.
