does anyone know why it is called club??

I just asked a Q about the 4 types of a piece of card, some one told me the manes kindly, diamond, heart , spade yeah, I can imgine why they are called like that ,but CLUB?? i just cant see why, its like a tree, not a club at all, does anyone can tell me the reason ?

I used to call them clovers my dad calls them puppy toes so they are anything you want them to be
