You should not recharge the batt. until it will not start the computer. It should be at the lowest charge possible before you charge it. It should also be on an over night charge to maximize charge.

Mine is always left plugged in so it keeps a full charge. My battery actually serves as a UPS. I have seen recommendations to unplug the charger once a month and run the computer until the battery is so low it shuts off. Then plug it back in and recharge. Even though the batteries are not supposed to have a memory it is still best to let it fully discharge once in a while before charging it.

using a lithium ion battery is easy. when you are not on the move, simply plug in your power adapter so that your battery will be charge and you can use the power directly. lithium ion battery are not suppose to be left drained, this will spoil the battery. laptop batteries can last for a few hours but it depend on the software you are running, hardware you are using, power setting (apm/acpi) and your overall setting (display resolution and others). lithium battery is different than nickel type battery. a nickel type battery must always be discharged or completely drained to be charge again. never to this to a lithium battery, whether it's an ordinary lithium, ion or polymer. if you want your laptop running more hours on battery, try upgrading it to the highest cell that it can support, normally 9 cell the maximum. but still you cant let your lithium battery fully drained!

As batteries age, they hold a charge for less and less time. I used to get 2 hours of work time with my laptop battery. A laptop battery only lasts a couple years.

The consensus among battery makers is, if you are running on batteries, let you battery drain as much as possible before recharging and ideally let it completely deplete itself every once and a while.
The only exception to this is rechargeable alkaline replacements. Their life will be maintained longer if you recharge them often and as soon as possible.
Some computers come with a "calibrate battery" function in their BIOS Setup. Doing this from time to time helps to do just that.

Until it's fully charged. That is, when you see an indication that more charging action would be wasteful and futile. Then you will surf with a full load.
