It's a cross between a male lion and a female tiger. Supposedly, a liger looks like a large lion with stripe. Unlike a lion but like a tiger they like to swim and some male ligers grow manes. Female ligers can also reproduce.

sorry drummerbo but they do exist, not in the wild, but in captivity. And you can see actual pictures of them on the internet. You need to do a little more research.

Yes tiger and lion can breed, because they are closely related. And yes the the liger is a cross between a male lion and a female tiger. They are the largest living feline. They can weigh over 800lbs. And some individuals have been known to weigh over 1,000lbs.

A tigon is a cross between a male tiger and a female lion and they are smaller than the liger.

Gee, you're getting a bunch of bad answers here; let me clear it up for you: There is NO such thing as a Liger or a Tiglon. They are made up myths. Those two breeds of cats DO NOT inter-breed. That old joke has been around for years, and is no more real than a Unicorn!
The old myth used to state that if the male was a tiger and the female a lion, it was a Tiglon. And if the male was the lion and the female a tiger it was a Liger.
But again--those animals DO NOT EXIST!!
Can I have my 10 points now, please? LOL

There are such thigs as ligers, the males are sterile but the females are capable of reproducing. There was a liger farm in Colorado that got shut down a couple of years ago because of poor conditions. Most of those ligers had to be euthenized, but some went to zoos.

More specifically, a male lion and female tiger. The opposite cross (male tiger and female lion) is a tigon.

because of their similar DNA, when a lion and a tiger breed, they are able to produce fertile offspring. if you've ever seen Napolean Dynamite, you've heard of a liger or a tigron :)
