Well,you walk (or run) up to them and say: "I'm moving from Janesville Wisconsin to Malibu California",and if you want to stay on their good side promise to keep in contact and maybe give them some chocolate!lol!

Not quite sure what you're worrying about.
If you're worrying about whether they'll feel that you're deserting them, then I think you can issue an open invitation to friends to call you whenever they might be in the area and a specific invitation to special friends to stay with you at a specific time. You can continue to communicate with them via phone and e-mail, as well.
If you're worrying about whether they'll think that you're making the right move, I'm thinking that you have made your decision, that you're moving, and that you're only looking for validation. They're probably not going to validate your decision--because they haven't decided the same thing. Don't worry about it. If this is the right decision for you, then go for it.

No easy way to do it, your going to have to come right out and say it. Assure them that you can still keep in touch via email or regular mail. And also gives them great reason to go to California for a visit, also gives you a chance for a vacation to visit them. If they are true friends they will support your decision and give you heart felt adios.

Just say I just been offered a job out in California and I just can't pass this opportunity up but you can keep contact through emails and you'll always be my best friends. And you can always come visit me after I have gotten settled.
