Many of those abbreviations date back decades, possibly over a century! Before I was doing Crypotographic maintenance on circuits for hte USAF, worldwide, I had used some, like SWAK, (Sealed With A Kiss) on mail, as my great grand parents had...

So, no, it is definitely NOT "teen talk"!

Some of the abbreviatiohns were used to expedite communications over static filled phone lines, expensive telegraph in the 1800's, or conserved ink and paper, in the 1700's! There is supposed to be reference to some in Shakespeare and other early writings!

I noticed that there were some abbreviations alluded to in the PBS shows about ancient civilizations! Stone masons marked their works in the first century, with some abbreviations for Latin or Aramaic, or Greek, words!

It is a stupid way to communicate . A lot of people are loosing spellings and grammar because they are always lazy to think of the right spellings and also looking for a short cut to get to their points.

it's not just teenage language- it's just like short hand for typing. i use some but not all... i'm not a teen. it's just easier to type the letters instead of typing out the whole phrase. i think hate is a pretty strong word when referring to something as simple as short-hand for typing.

yea, they are just kids. that's not intelligent language at all. I can create million of abreviations by that way, such as:
WHTICL ! IDID.?= Who hates teenage internet chat language! I do I do.?
