um lets see the reason that there is so many South African people in the UK is because we have a real big job shortage in South Africa...and the UK hires the South Africans because we work harder...the UK people don't coz the government will take care of them if they do not have jobs! we (South Africans) do not have that safety net
Doodydude...none of the young south africans have anything to do with the state south africa is in! the white ones (as u call them) can't find jobs anywhere else...so what are we supposed to do...
open your eyes people the young south africans have nothing to do with what happened in the apartheid and all that so quit blaming us...

Sorry dWali, that number is a bit steep.
There are 7 million people in London, so 1 million Saffa's are a bit much.
I remember reading in the TNT magazine (a London based Antipodean mag) that about 23 thousand came in in the last few years, but that still doesn't say how many there already are, how many more left or returned etc.
Saying that there is a million of us in the whole UK, from England to Scotland, Ireland and Wales could be more accurate.
I've been in some small villages in Scotland on holiday, only to find a Saffa serving me at the bar.

I don't understand why people would be concerned about it. Does it matter? Back then, the UK colonized SA, making it part of it's empire. Just about every "white" South African originally comes from Europe, My grandfather is Welsh for example. When people frown upon South Africans living in the UK, its like hating your own gene pool.

I was a UK'er living in South Africa and you couldnt move without someone who had just returned from living in England, or about to move out there. As someone else has pointed out, opportunities due to 'positive discrimination' are much harder to come by these days in RSA. Although I can understand why people who were 'previously disadvantaged' under apartheid should be given a hand up, its not right to discriminate against hard working people, whatever their race or colour. And its certainly not fair to blame people who were not responsible for setting up apartheid, for trying to pursue their livlihoods in another country.
Most SA'ers are in London though. Thats where all the best biltong shops are. If anyone knows of any biltong shops 'up north' then please do tell me!
If you check out the SA High Commission website you may find your answer - http://www.southafricahouse.com/ or give them a call if you cant locate it - they should be able to tell you quite quickly.

Quite a few. Lots of dentists, quite a lot of accountants and I know a few in the wholesale jewelry business. They often have good, ironic senses of humour. I have joked with my dentist that he did his training with BOSS in the good old days and could get a confession from an ANC suspect quicker than you could drink a cup of hot coffee. It is good to deal with people who are not too tainted by PC.

I have heard that at any given time there is at least a million SA's in London. Would be great to have this confirmed?

Whatever official number you get will understate the true number because it will probably only reflect the people who have formally immigrated and not those living here indefinitely.
