Air deflection to the floor or other vents in a vehicle is caused by one of 3 methods depending on the type of vehicle you own. With out knowing if deflection is caused electrically, pneumatically, or mechanically (by cable) it's difficult to give you a correct answer. Try asking the question again and include the year, make, and model of your vehicle.

i own a repair shop, and if it still wont go the lower vents on it there may be something obstructing it ,.anything like a pencil that has been dropped down through the defroster vent will make it stay stuck on defroster you may try and clean it by taking some of the vent hoses off if you can get to them, good luck i hope this help,s.

Defrost position is the normal one when the controls quit because that's the one you can't live without. It can be anything from a bad vacuum reservoire under the hood to a failed solenoid under the dash.

aren't the vents actuated by vaccume? you might have to open the dash and look for vaccum leaks
