*Massive Multiplayer Online Game

if so, then does the server of the company keeping the MMOG on the internet affect the game's stability, and how much does their server stability affect the quality of the connection and the lagging, and loading times? does the CPU power affect the game lags too? if so, how much?

if not, then what does? their server, your computer, the CPU power of your computer, or what?

oh, and some tips on minimizing the loading times and lags of a game would be nice too

Your connection speed is a factor but only one of many. Virtually every thing you mention comes in to play. As does the delay across the internet. This delay can be significant. If you are on a DSL broadband connection with a high contention ratio, throughput will be terrible regardless of your connection speed and delay times will be high. Ditto for an older cable modem network with low headend capacity and many subscribers on the local loop. Even on a well-designed system, there can be bottlenecks between your connection and the MMOG server.

There's nothing that you can do about issues on the server end. If they don't have enough capacity for the number of players or enough bandwidth to service everyone, performance is going to suffer. End of story.

There may be little that you can do about your internet connection, aside form testing the service from various carriers -- and that may not even be an option in many areas where the is only a single carrier.

If the cable system in your area is a new digital system, that would be your best bet. Next best would be a business grade DSL connection if you are within one wire-mile or so of the central office or remote DSLAM. Business grade DSL typically costs 2 - 5 times as much as consumer grade but offers much lower contention ratios and usually includes a router with a static IP address.

Your computer is probably the only thing that you can work on to improve performance. Even then, that will depend upon how much processing is offloaded onto the client systems.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz
