I am a very bad caffeine addict and I want to stop drinking so much. In what ways is it good for you and in what ways is it bad?

I'm not really a coffee drinker... it's just in things like sodas.

Have you ever stuck a penny into a glass of coke. Do this, and watch what happens to the penny. I used to be a very heavy soda drinker (about 6-7 cans a day, mainly mountain dew). I went to a doctors appointment one day to talk about trying to have a baby. The doctor asked me how much soda I drank, and when I told her she told me that I needed to cut back to maybe one a day, if that. she said that each can of mountain dew that you drink is equivalent to about three cups of coffee. I decided right then and there to quit. I for the first month went cold turkey. For the first week, I had horrible headaches, and did not sleep well. After that, I just began to feel better overall. This has been about nine months ago, and I have since lost about 10 pounds. I also require about 2 less hours of sleep a night. I believe that the caffeine had me tossing, and turning half the night, so I wasn't getting a good nights sleep. There are different brands of soda that can have up to 300 calories per can. This is a lot considering that a person's daily calorie intake is supposed to be from1,500-2,000 calories a day. I now only have about 3-4 sodas a week. When I do drink soda it is clear (sprite, 7 up, sierra mist, etc.). I have found that something that does help with soda cravings are the carbonated flavored waters that wall-mart sells.

I can't say why or why not it is bad for you but I can tell you frome my recent experience (in the last 2 weeks) I quit drinking Sodas, All sodas, but I was mostly addicted to Pepsi. I am tired all the time & I have a lot of headaches those are withdrawl symptoms you may feel. I broke out all over my face in zits I was drinking a lot of Pepsi. My face has cleared up & my periods aren't as painful. sugar & caffine (&salt) when your a mensturating makes for some bad cramps.
