I am going to use it mainly for photos, music, DVD's and internet access.I know I will need memory and fast processor.

Laptops are not that great for gaming, unless you plan on spending $3000.00 or more. Get a nice sempron equipped laptop with at least 512 mb or ram or more. 100 gb or more hard drive would be good and wifi enability is great. If you are using it for playing dvds (2 hours) get a battery that has a nice life time, say 3-4 hours. You might not always want to use a touchpad, and it would be advisable for you to also pick up an optical usb mouse.

really any baseline laptop with a dvd player can do all of that. if you are going to play processor and memory hungry games you will need to spend some bigger bucks. my 300mhz p2 machine can play music, dvd's and surf the net. at 300mhz though flahs sites jerk around, so do dvd's at times. but the computer is 8 years old. any new laptop can do that stuff

Basically, you get what you pay for. TigerDirect has some great deals. Check out the one below. If you have a price range of $500-$800 then that's good enough for you.
