Depends on your ISP and modem. Dial-up = slooooooooooow. Cable, with 56k modem, almost instantaneous. What used to take me 1/2 hour with dial-up, takes me 2 minutes with cable.
Also, with dial-up, your proximity to the phone company makes a difference. For example, I live one mile from the phone company, my son lives almost 10 miles away. My downloads went almost twice as fast as his.
