If you're talking about the Major Leagues:
The minimum salary for the 2006 season is $327,000.
The maximum salary for a rookie is $980,000. This does not include signing bonuses or incentive clauses. Most teams keep this information confidential, so it would be hard to figure the overall average. Reportedly, Justin Verlander of the Tigers was the top paid rookie in 2006. He earned $3,886,850.08. With the information available, the average salary for a rookie would be approximately $600,000 with the figure including bonues being right around one million dollars.
The average salary of all MLB players is $2,476,589.
And an added message for Nacnud. Derek Jeter is NOT a rookie. Try reading the question next time.

dude im gunna kill that Nacnud guy... JETER IS NOT GOD! the only reason he makes that is because George overpays everyone
anyways... a player in his first year playing professional baseball makes VERY little... maybe 80,000 playing AA
a player whos good enough to get to the MLB in his first year will prob make 400,000 to 500,000
