Although I'm not a Democrat I do recognize what a person has done. I mostly appreciate his volunteering for Habitat for humanity. However, he also did a Consolidation of numerous governmental agencies into the newly formed Department of Energy, a cabinet level department. He enacted strong environmental legislation; deregulated the trucking, airline, rail, finance, communications, and oil industries; bolstered the social security system; and appointed record numbers of women and minorities to significant government and judicial posts. That's all this brain can recall though.

Much like Bush, Carter was elected so Americans could take pride in their presidency once again. Nixon and the Watergate scandal had Americans pretty fed up with the lack of morals in the leadership of our country. Clinton had the same effect on American take Nixon had. Both the Clinton presidency and the Nixon presidency were followed by highly religious presidents with high moral standards.
Unfortunately, a return of morality was about the only contribution Carter made to this country. Most of his policies proved ineffective.
