Hi,
You can easily extract a DNA from an onion and see it with the naked eye.
First of all, peel some onions, then put them in a jar, put some washing up liquid in it then a pinch of salt. Mix it and then put it in hot water for a while. After that strain the liquid out carefully without a strainer. Be careful not to shake the mixture.. or the pattern will be disrupted. You can then see the small dna pattern suspended in the liquid. If put into the freezer (not to be frozen) for a while its even more clearer.

Only way to see it using light microscope is to have some iron atoms bind to DNA strand and you see long clunk of iron atoms in shape of DNA strand.
