When I went to Brugge (two and a bit years ago) it was cold, wet, the night life was non-existent, it was full of tour groups of pensioners looking at lace doilies and just really rather dull. Instead of spending two nights we stayed one then moved onto Brussels.

On the plus side there are no McDonalds, they have good beer and excellent chocolate.

Brugge is a fairly sleepy town with not that much happening. It's very picturesque but the night life is not too great. Food was good... people ok..... nothing else really to say..... of take a train to Brussels for a better night life but even then compared with the rest of Europe it's in a lower league.

belgium is quite a cultured place with loadsa bonny buildings. u must sample the cheese, the chocolate and the beer. hoegaarden is particularly good.

its a romantic place in some ways, although it gets quite nippy of a night, the weather is similar to ours. you might find the canals smell a bit mind.

i found the people there to be generally more broadminded than the brits, although i was a bit spoilt because my hosts were great people.

enjoy yourself, chux. you won't get a tan but you should get a fairly warm welcome from anybody who has forgiven the english for the haisel stadium disaster.

oh yeah, and they speak flemish in brugge, as it is in flanders, but it ain't dutch, remember that. there is a certain amount of antipathy towards the dutch in some people in flanders, so remember, they are flemings and they speak flemish.

say hello to irwin in the gent social centre for me if he is still there, he was a lovely man.

From what I remember of Brugge from a few years ago, there's very little there except for a bit of canal and some old buildings and a tramway. I suspect that for any night life you'll be going elsewhere, like Brussels - it's not too far by train. Enjoy yourselves wherever you finish up!

o, yeh, and Liege or Luik (French and German name for the same place) has a wonderful little plaza, you should have to go their, it is very serene. (o, and during Christmas that place is covered with ice, to skate) and I think that is so cosy!!

Ive been in brussles and in liège and believe me it kinda sux there.at least liège.it looks like eastern germany before the wall fell there.brussles is a bit prettier because its a very old city.nevertheless both of these cities are in the french part of belgium.ive heard the flanders region is much better than wallonia.is supposed to not even be a comparison between them...
