Try observing children who ask endless questions, about everything they see, and still they cannot be easily made to understand abstract things like furniture, though they already know the table chair etc ! Once they get a 'feel' of abstract, then the person who is regularly answering the child gets a heavier dose of questions, each weighing a ton !
The doubt is just about our inability to logically match the newly perceived information, or a combination of perceptions with a pre-recorded data stored in memory .

Belief, faith, knowledge are positive forces from divine sources. The eternal yes.
You're right, doubt is a void, It is a negative, a lack, a vacuum. It is that evil little voice whispering "no," "you can't," "I'm not sure" or "I don't know." It makes us weak, makes us second guess ourselves, others, life, love etc until we can't be sure of anything. Makes you feel hollow inside. Tears you down. Shakes your confidence. Doubt forms out of the negative thought patterns that may seem to come naturally, but are based on our painful experiences & socialization. We are taught to be negative by our parents, other role models. We build up biases based on our experience. Some people become hardened with doubt: Skeptics, cynics, critics who build their lives on the eternal no. They don't believe in anything & try to tear down others.

Ah, you're studying Descartes !
Doubt for Descartes is what is not rational or can be proven. It can be fear and can cause us not to act on something. It causes us to question things and can also provide logical proofs for arguments.
It's NOT a piece of knowledge that you've never actually had., or lacking a piece of knowledge. How can you doubt something you don't know about?
You need to have proof or non-proof of something, in order to have existence of doubt.

Thanks for the question. Challenging... Actually you already answered it Doubt only comes up in inquiring minds always looking for right, or more complete answers. Maybe doubt is the "thirst for knowledge", and maybe it's an addictive hobby of our brains.

I believe doubt is the same thing as non-faith. If you doubt something is going to happen...then you don't have the faith that it can. Just remember...anything can happen.

Uncertainty. There are few, if any, certainties in life. Therefore, doubts arise in the inquiring mind.
