Professional shampoo and extraction....don't waste your time with other products... the stain will only be driven into the backing and will later reappear. Steam extraction is the best and only way to truly remove stains and dirt from a carpet....
OH YA>>> don't rent one of those extraction machine available at the supermarket or the local Rental center...they just don't have the heating or suction power needed to do a good job.

I have used Resolve in the past and that works really well, but the one I use now is called Simple Green. I have five kids and, so far, there isn't anything that stuff won't get out of carpet and couches. I would highly recommend that you give it a try. You would be amazed!! You can find it in places like Walmart, Target, Menards, and Home Depot. Good luck!!!

Get a pot and add a nice amount of pine sol and hot water. You soak it in and scrub. If your carpet is on the tan or white side you could add a little bleach to the pine sol. Works for me. Use plastic gloves. Good luck. Don't let the kids eat or drink in the living room or bed rooms. Stay consistent, you'll keep a clean house.

It depends on the stains of course.. you mention koolaid.. that is almost impossible to get out.. I would suggest one of two options and that is ALL..
a) Getting a professional carpet cleaner in to try
b) rent a machine from the local grocery store//// HOme Depot, Lowe/s and get the cleaning material(liquid) to go with it and try it myself but... that koolaid business is not painting a very rosy picture.. That is why I NEVER allow koolaid in the house

Oxyclean works reasonably well, but there is a quick caveat--do the whole area, if you do one part it will look brighter than the rest.
