I'm stationed in Spain and have a K 100RS that I bought two years ago here. It's european spec, but I think they are all the same where the performance/emissions is concerned. I can have it shipped to an authorized importer if they certify they will only release it to me after it qualifies for inspection and registration in the States. I only want to do this if it is cost effective for me. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.

Spain is a nice place to be stationed. And that's a nice classic you've got there. Those old flying bricks are getting to be collectors items. You see folks shelling out quite the dime for a well-maintained one. Personally, I like the R100 airheads better. I took my old R100G/S across country, and kind of got hooked. Anyway, I don't think you'd have a problem getting it into the States, or getting it registered, but regretfully, I think you might have problems getting it to pass emissions in California--if they bother checking on motorcycles. Well, unless the rules are different for older vehicles compared to the new models. But I don't think it would be difficult to *get it* to comply. I think the biggest difference would be that you would need to retrofit a vacuum canister, which would be cheap and easy to do, I beleive. And many folks actually get rid of their vac cans after passing emmissions bcs it's a relatively unsightly addition to the back of their bike, so you could get it used.

Alternatively, you could check out used ones locally, and see if it beats the cost of shipping. Check out the K-Bike listings under this site. http://ibmwr.org/market/

G'luck!
