Here are some points which shows that domestic animals are far superior than us.
We need clothes to protect us – they just don’t need
We take one year from birth to start walking – they take just a few hours
We cannot swim without learning – they can
We need house to stay – they don’t
We need doctors every now and then – they just get cured themselves
We need money for almost everything - they don’t need any currency
We need thousands of law to govern ourselves – they just follow law of nature
We cannot jump or climb easily – they do it effortlessly
We need their help many times – they don’t need our help
And so on……………

Finally, how dare we ourselves claim our superiority over other animals? Let there be election and then all animals would make sure that we loose miserably.

Anyone to contradict/support above ?

Primates are specialized for intelligence. Man is a primate. He lost most of his fur because he evolved in a warm, tropical region in which fur was not needed. However, his intelligence enabled him to take a coat of fur from animals which had it and use its warmth for himself, and this let him colonize colder areas.

The organ most susceptible to cold is the brain (the lungs are the next most vulnerable). As anyone who has experience with water freezing in buckets knows, the larger the bucket, the better the water in it resists being frozen. Size is a defense against freezing. The temperatures of the winter nights culled the migratory bands of early humans in favor of larger brains. A larger brain size afforded evolution with the chance to extend the natural specialty of primates (intelligence) even further than it had done before.

The way of nature is this: creatures that don't have very far to go usually arrive there fast. Creatures that must go much further must prepare more, develop more, before they can even assay their first steps. It takes the higher being longer to start, but, once started, he may go very far indeed.

It's not a net fault in man, therefore, that he is helpless and dependent on his elders for a long time after he is born.

We CAN BUILD houses. Other animals CANNOT build houses. If they COULD, and DID, they'd have an advantage from predators and from the elements that they DON'T have now.

We HAVE doctors. Other animals DO NOT have them. We survive when sick. They die when sick. Did you not notice this? You were watching the herd, but you failed to notice the animals who were left behind because they were too sick to keep up.

On the other hand, you have a point that you might not realize. Animals that are prone to sickness are SUPPOSED TO DIE. That's what nature intended. Animals that are born with hereditary defects in body or in mind are SUPPOSED TO DIE. Nature intended that, too. Species that interfere with nature's design, as we do with our doctors, create problems for themselves in the long run. The defects, which are hereditary, pass from parents to children, and they accumulate in abundance as the generations go by. At some point, not all the doctoring in the world, nor all the mechanical compensation, will be able to keep the species "propped up" well enough to enable it to survive, and it will, therefore, become extinct.

The intelligent remedy to this problem is eugenics. People bad-mouth eugenics for reasons that they probably don't understand very well. They say it's Playing God, although it's more like Playing God Right, whereas doctoring is Playing God Wrong.

Money is a symbol for energy. Energy is a currency common to both humans and other animals. But humans make use of energy in many forms, and money provides a fluid standard to mediate between those forms. Like a motor uses grease to lubricate its moving parts.

Laws are not unnatural. They can be wisely or foolishly made. Lawmakers can do their jobs either well or poorly. But laws, at their best, can help teach men to live in accordance with nature, and thereby to live well. To have good laws, though, the lawmakers must be wise. To have wise lawmakers, their selection must be intelligent. Any foolishness in the selection of leaders or lawmakers will be multiplied a thousand times in the persons of those leaders and lawmakers.

Democracy is unnatural, and it isn't consistent with nature's demands. It is possible only because there exists a planetary stockpile of energy resource (fossil fuels) that can be used to shore up society from the horrendous consequences of having bad leaders and bad laws. When the energy runs out, all the accumulated mass of consequences will flood in on the heads of the fools who presumed to defy nature with democratic politics.

Some men can jump, including Cristian Olsson, Stefan Holm, and Matt Hemmingway. Most men are too lazy to train themselves to jump.

Every predator needs the "help" of his prey. We are just the most effective predator on the planet.

As mentioned already, elections are a particularly stupid way to organize any social order, and God was much too smart to make any use of it when he was designing the world.

You seem like you really put alot of thought into this question ... and I think its a pretty cool point that you're making, personally. But logically -- yes, animals are able to do all these things, but animals have yet to make any leaps and bounds in their societies. Rabbits are still doing the same thing they were doing 100 years ago. Intelligence has many advantages, but I guess it also has downsides as well. We as humans have so many things going on in our minds that we lose that natural ability like animals have, say to just jump in the water and swim or climb up a tree. And intelligence also means that there will be the few that use it for negative means, which is why we have to make laws and currency to keep everything organized. Also, our intelligence and awareness has driven us to seek out things like fairness for everyone (whether it really happens or not is a different story) and not just live "dog eat dog" like our 4 legged counterparts.

Hi, BT. The reasons you have shown are very fine but not based on the principles of Sociology and Biology. I am forced to contradict your views because the man is superior to animals on the following grounds: 1. Power of Imagination. 2. Strength of Reasoning. 3. Sense of Civilization. 4. Cultural aspects. 5. Inquisitiveness. Several points can be added but for the fear of the space needed, the basic points mentioned above are enough at present.

Why do you think that whenever you turn on to the Animal Planet you only see animals going after each other throats or eating each other? Why do you hardly see them play nicely with each other?

One third of chimps are murdered at the hands of their other violent counterparts. Most primates, if you noticed, have thick skin especially around the face, we don't because violence between humans is less frequent when compared to violence between animals. We were fortunate to evolve vocal chords and comunication skills, from this the weakest of us managed to band together and plot against our stronger and violent predecessors, and no longer had a need for the thick skin.

Besides, the fact of the matter is that we really don't need to swim or jump or climb that well, its not neccesary to our survival. Animals depend on these abilities to survive, hence they evolve the ability to do these things better. Their speedy development from birth to adulthood is also neccessary for them, its hard for parents to support their children for too long, it hinders their ability to hunt or scavenge for food. They don't have doctors, so they have higher mortality rates and lower life expectancies. Our homes protect us from the weather and predeators, imagine waking up eah day wondering if you'd live through to tommorow, some of us have the luxury of never experiencing that. Clothes not only provides us with protection, but they help us express ourselves, about our individual identities and personalities.

Although hard to imagine, money actually frees us, Aristotle said that the concept of money is valid because it represents the amount of work we do, replacing the need for bartering. This allows smooth transactions when trading and frees people from just surviving by hunting and farming for just their ownself. Instead people can specialize in what they do (e.g. one person justs farms while the other raises the cattle), from this we enjoy a variety of goods and luxuries, unfathomable by animals. And this allows us to pursue the arts and discover the secrets of our universe. Increasing the standards of living for us all.

In case you haven't noticed, the laws of nature sucks, as Darwin puts it, it's "survival of the fittest", which really sucks, if you're on the bottom of the food chain (in a sense very "un-democratic", quite autocratic actually, so no such thing as voting). Our laws while non-sensical at times does ensure that we live harmoniously together.

Does this translate as superiority against the animals? Maybe.
It all depends on your definition of superiority.
Although it does differentiate humans from animals, just a bit.
Given the choice, I would choose to be a homo-sapien rather than some animal.

I think you are looking at it the wrong way.

Humans are not inferior because we need these things.

Humans are superior because we can (and do) make these things. We have a longer life expectency, opposable thumbs, and most importantly superior brains to practically any other animal.

We use our brains to make houses far superior to any animal's nest, lair, or hole in the ground.

We use our brains to make clothes that can protect us much better than fur.

We use our brains to make vehicles that can travel faster than a cheetah.

We use our brains to make equipment so that we can swim alot longer under water than any other land-dwelling mammal.

We use our brains to organize into much larger groups (armies) than any other animal.

We use our brains to travel to outer space, which is something no other animal can do.

We visit doctors to give us a longer life expectancy than most other animals.

The list goes on...

As for the election... I think humans would win. Unless you can somehow figure out a way to make an animal understand why you are putting them in a voting booth. Oh yeah, that's another way we are superior: we vote. Democracy.

I'm not sure if this is meant to be a rhetorical question, but I think that a claim for human superiority could best be based on several things. First, humans alone have a history wherein we are made aware of the existence and deeds of other humans that were alive before us. The human race has also achieved art, culture, individual senses of personal style and identity, and a language system advanced enough to allow us to educate one another through it.

We have access to "Yahoo answers", do they have. They are called domestic animals because they have been domesticised by us. Otherwise they arfe wild animals. We can also swim without learning, the only thing is that our instints for survival is so strong that we try to use every possible thing to save ourself fron drowning and we make mistakes so we are drowned. Try lying inactive on water, and I am sure you wil never be drowned, you might have noticed that corpses are not drowned. The domestic animals ae dependent on us, it is true they are helpful to us, but the God have made them this way. In short you are superior to animals because you can ask this question on "Yahoo" and maybe I am to answer you. Don't get dishearted you are superior to animal on all accounts. Howerver your arguments are super, I must say

Ln the computer language all things in Nature other than human being are already Programmed.
We have the choice to programme ourselves.
Man is a rational animal. But he must use his sixth sense to be human being.

In your narration you can substitute animal = some people (who have failed to programme themselves)

I can see your angle, and agree to a point. but remember that we only lost our own fur when we created clothes. we only need houses because we had the sufficient brains to create them, and most animals have burrows, sets, nests or something similar. our main superiority is the fact we have scientific brains, and an advancwed ability to learn from our mistakes and other people's.

agree wid u
but it is WE who claim OURSELVES to be superior over others.
we obviously wont go against ourselves.
and we have gone overboard with our self proclaimed supremacy. our world, which also belongs to animals has been ruthlessly changed to suit our needs. for which we will suffer as we CANNOT live widout our fellow living beings and they cannot live widout us.
only we have the power to change our planet and we should use it for positively improving our world , along wid the animals worlds.
