IF Norton came stock on your computer I wouldn't recommend uninstalling it. Its a good program and is doing its job. Just temporarily disabling until you get the desired action is the best way to go. Think about it, 1-disable the Great Antivirus program that comes with windows and is guaranteed, or going to some free download site and taking more security risks (since your norton would be uninstalled) and downloading new antivirus software. Your norton was installed by microsoft and it does a good job. Just disable it for a minute while you get done what you need done and re-enable it.

It's your firewall and not antivirus program that's stopping you from access. Either go into your firewall configuration and put them on the "allowed" list or change your secuity programs.
I used to be a Norton user and it's a big resource hog and slows down your computer.
I would recommend that you uninstall Norton from your computer for that reason.

I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust's 12 month free trial is excellent (I'm using it and am extremely impressed).
If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.

If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.

Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection. If you do decide to change programs, as soon as you instal them, please do an update for each program.
