I use my local library's website. But you usually have to have a library card.

Excel is not a database! Excel is a spreadsheet. Deciding which tool to use depends on how you intend to use the data that is being stored. If you want to be able to add a search engine, and extract and view the data based on release date, artist, song, album, genre, etc then do not use excel for this. If you want a simple inventory of your collection and do not intend to use the data over the web, then use a spreadsheet. Data being stored in a database can be maniuplated muich better in a database. I guess you could start with Access - but if you plan to access this data over the web then MySQL is a good starting point.
