the spec would have to be able to watch tv, msm, free view, route finder and play dvds

you need a "freeview dongle" which is a USB device you plug into the laptop if you want to watch telly. They're readily available on Ebay now.

Most laptops will do everything else you need anyway.

yeah - you'd probably need to buy the tv card separately. in terms of brands though, if you want a pc i'd always go for a dell - bit pricier but you really do get what you pay for and it should last you years. but don't rule out macs - they're much more user-friendly than they used to be (not to mention very pretty!). again, more expensive...

you might have to buy one then upgrade it. i've neve seen a laptop with a tv video card in it

They all seem to catch fire from overheating batteries lately, i wouldn't take the risk of having one :)
