How do you download extras onto the sims?

Question

okay so i went to like 10 different sites to find things to download onto my sims, like new hair styles and clothing, but EVERY time i download something it makes a new folder onto my cpu, and does not get on my game. i have the new extension* pack umm the glamoure life i think. anyways can any one help me, in like clear steps ?

and if i'm not already a lost cause, when i did update my game with the new pack thing, ALL the walls of the houses in my game are glowing red and i cant change it..grr

+Download WinRAR
+Q-Express
+Color Coding
+Create a downloads folder in documents>Sims2
