I just landed a great job that starts next week. Here is how I structured my cover letter.

Paragraph one: Clearly state the title of the position you are applying for and where you saw it advertised (Internet job board, newspaper, etc.).

Paragraph two: Write three to four lines about your current job experience, what you have been doing up until now both career and education-wise, your strengths, your interests, etc.

Paragraph three: Tell the person reading your letter how the information in paragraph two relates to the job you are applying for. Include how the job you are applying for fits in with your long-term career goals. Say why you are interested in the job.

Final paragraph: Thank the reader for considering your application. I always end my cover letters with a sentence like "I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the position and my qualifications in greater detail." Be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached to schedule an interview.

Good luck!

You don't really need a cover letter. Most hr executives don't read them. Instead write a summary of experience in one or two paragraphs.

Read this interesting article on why you shouldn't write a cover letter.
