some people say that i have to get a guitar teacher to become very good at guitar

no. A teacher is a guide to show you the basics. you need to be self-motivated, though, to be proficient at anything.

Well, I see everyone has the same answer as I was going to post, and that is that you don't NEED a teacher for anything that you want to learn in life, but it helps - it speeds up the learning process, gives you someone to talk with about on the subject, and someone to rely on.

In the case of learning guitar, a good teacher should have an ear for how a song should sound in pitch and tempo, and have tips and tricks for learning chords easier.

This teacher works for you. You're the one paying. Talk to the store owner and tell him you want a different teacher. If he doesn't make a change, take lessons somewhere else. There are other guitar players who will be happy to work with you.

Depends on the person. I had a roommate that was extremely good but had no teacher.

at first to get the basics and to train your ear.....ive been at it for 20 years and never had a teacher.....i figured out most of it from watching mtv when it was about music....but if ya want it bad enough.....anything helps

if you want a teacher call a friend who knows how.professional ones ask high prices

to get good quick, it helps to have a teacher.
but if you keep playing ull get good even without one

You can teach yourself. Mark Knopfler did, and he is one of the best.
