Is it to cool down the surface before it's used? Or just so you can take it out and put it away.

It's just for convenience. Usually, after burning a CD you would remove and store the disc. The software manufacturer included the disc ejection as a feature. Just about all burning software that does that also has an option to turn that feature off.

Well, its simple dude. Of course it means its finished already. Once the CD or DVD has been ejected by the device it means the process is complete and finished.

Two reasons actually. Most important is to inform you that the burn process is complete and more important "Sucessfull". Second reason, Common Courtesy. Larry (Radio Shack 01-9590)

Maybe you burnt a CD and want to listen to it on you sterio, it is just helping your out, though, your can disable this if it annoys you, usually your able to disable it on most good programs.

the latter. its just being nice. and perhaps so you don't forget to take it out and mistakenly burn more stuff on it, stuff that you wanted on a different disk

It's just that way by default. I use Nero, and I know you can change that option in it.
