There have been a limited number of studies following marijuana-exposed babies through childhood. Some did not find any increased risk of learning or behavioral problems. However, others found that children who are exposed to marijuana before birth are more likely to have subtle problems that affect their ability to pay attention and to solve visual problems
Women who use cannabis during pregnancy are at increased risk for premature labour and birth.
Babies born to mothers who use marijuana during pregnancy are more likely to be born smaller than other babies. Marijuana-exposed infants are at increased risk for decreased body length and low birth weight.
Having a small baby does not mean that labour and delivery will be easier. On the contrary, a smaller baby is not strong enough to help in its delivery, making labour more difficult. Low-birth-weight infants are also more likely to have health problems as they grow.

This is apparently a touchy subject with just about everybody.
Naturally, the medical community will tell you not to do ANY kind of illegal drugs or drinking while you are pregnant, and for good reasons. Study has shown problems with those using while they are pregnant...many of them...
BUT...they say there are no studies on women who smoked marijuana while pregnant, only because there have been no adverse effects on those they have studied, so they don't want to tell you that this illegal drug won't hurt you or the baby. So basically they didn't get the results they were looking for so they say not to risk it. (cigarettes are a different story, they will harm your baby...so watch out for that)
Like others have said here, I also have been around many who have smoked while pregnant, with very healthy and happy kids. No prematurity, no birth defects.
At the same time, you know the effects it causes in you, lack of concentration, it slows down brain fuction, depth perception(seeing things farther than they really are...which is why you don't drive while high)etc... so you should know your baby is getting the same effects except stronger as they are developing in your belly. So don't rule out any possible effects on your child just because no one else (proven) has had problems
You essentially will be the one to make the decision to quit or not, so... if you decide to keep smoking, try to stay away from cigar-rolled (too much tobacco which definitely can hurt the child) and try to stay away from smoking resin. Just do it in moderation. Of course, you know that if you don't smoke it at all, you don't have to worry about these things anyways!! Which way would put your mind at ease?? Do what you think is best for your child and the answer should come easily...
Good luck and Blesed be!

Why would you want to expose your unborn child to cannabis before the child is even born. Having a premature baby can have a bid impact on not only you but also the child when they are younger. This include their mental development along with other physical elements, such as being small- various organs not developing etc. Although there is no solid evidence to say that babies in the womb who's mother used cannabis can experience mental ill health at a later date- you might want to think very long and hard.

Don't listen to these hypocrites on here saying that marijuana is going to cause brain damage... That is the biggest crock of lies and hugest misconception. Look up melanie dreher, and the studies she did. I have had different doctors tell me that there are no known birth defects or negativity to come from smoking marijuana while pregnant!! So nobody has the right to pass judgment when they clearly have no idea what the facts are.her baby will be healthy if she has a solid genetic line of healthy babies. If not, then that is the reason why her baby is not healthy. NOT MARIJUANA. marijuana during pregnancy has never produced any recorded negative effects on a fetus. You could smoke the entire time during pregnancy to relieve yourself from nausea and other ailments, if you wanted to. I can understand the hype because you're putting something into your body, but marijuana is a harmless medicinally used herb that is used all over the world. It does not kill brain cells. The study suggesting such a thing was performed in the 60's and the government scientists used gas masks to pump marijuana with no oxygen INTO MONKEYS for 15 minutes straight, daily. when the monkeys started dying, they attributed it to brain damage. Ummmm OF COURSE the monkeys had brain damage. They were without oxygen for that long, daily!!! Do your research. The studies performed on pregnant mothers who smoked marijuana habitually during pregnancy did not have any negative side effects. The side effects they did have were positive, and their brains were in no way impaired. she is 100 percent fine...(Unless some predetermined genetic factor comes into play)

Whether your baby is premature or not, why would you even risk creating a dope addict? Curb your hunger for the pot and whatever else you might think to indulge in. Lay off it all if you are pregnant. The kid didn't ask to be born and so the very least you can do is to take care of yourself and give the child a good start in life. A kid's life is tough to begin with, why would you make a baby suffer needlessly? And after the child is born, you will need a very clear head to be a good parent.

Its not just premature. The baby's survival and long term, life long health are compromised. The number one killer of premature babies is a mother who smoked while pregnant. Smoked anything.
Liver functions, nervous system disfucntion, lung malformations, poor blood circulation, heart trouble... all these things are found in the baby. Low birth weight and failure to thrive after birth are also found.
Anyone who would willingly do that to their child should be locked up. Its not a risk any mother should subject their own flesh and blood to, their own child. Esspecially just for the sake of shortning a pregnancy term, or birthing a smaller baby for the sake of ease.
Smoking causes issues with the placenta, babies can be miscarried or premature, depending on when the health of the placenta fails.

i know several people that smoked pot durring thier pregnancies with no adverse affects, and other people that did everything by the book and ended up with babies that had birth deffects. cigarettes and alcohol are definetly more dangerous then the canibis because of the chemicals used in the processing and the gun powder used on the cigarette papers to keep a cigarette burning. im not saying go out and get stoned, because if the baby tests positive for marijuana at birth child services can be called and your baby taken away from you. if you are going to smoke the ghanga do so in moderation, anything in ecess is bad for you even healthy things like water, if drank in large quanities can make you sick remember that everything you do has some affect on your unborn baby, but dont believe everything the govt tells you either, almost everyone i know gets high and none of em have had problems related to that with thier babies, but then again everything u take in goes to the baby. be smart and take care of yourself, ignore the people that are condemming you for smoking bud it doesnt make you a bad person in fact potheads are pretty mellow people unlike drunks, and alcohols legal but take into consideration everything you can learn about the subject and make an educated decission. good luck and lay off the buddies. a few months of sacrifice beats years of social services in your life because what you do to your body is monitered by your drs and if the dr feels your endangering your child they have a legal responsiblity to report you. also ask your dr what he or she thinks you may be surprised. a friend of mine was told by thier dr that it wouldnt affect her baby but there are the other risks anything can go wrong when you are pregnant even under ideal circumstances

you should not smoke no matter what! If you were not going to everything you can to have a healthy baby you should not have gotten pregnant. I am 36 weeks pregnant and have done every last thing by the book, and my baby is still very sick, the doc don't know if she will make it on here own once she born. So why would you want to take the risk.

I know someone who did this daily through 2 pregnancies. The babies were both healthy weights but she had to have forcep deliveries and was told this was due to her muscles being too relaxed to push and the baby too sleepy to go through the birth too.
The babies were born with an addiction so cried a lot for the first few weeks while it came out of their system.
Now they are older they both have asthma and attention span/behaviour problems.
I think of the sake of giving it up for a few months you could save yourself a lot of future problems

no, the baby will not. If you smoke weed, you eat right? so in all reality, do you really think the baby will have low birth weight? =) that's just what doctors tell you because weed is illegal. i wouldn't recommend smoking it the whole time you are pregnant, but I can definately say the baby won't be preemie just cuz you puffed the magic dragon. I know because I know TOO MANY PEOPLE who have did it 7 had perfectly normal, healthy babies. And actually, most of their babies learned to do some things sooner than expected. people who are against drugs will tell you weed will do this & that, but i know LOTS of people & never met even 1 person who has smoked weed while pregnant (whether they did it not knowing they were or knowing) and it hurt the baby. Now that's real. I am sure lots of people won't like my answer, but it's the truth.
