The actual definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over, and expect a different outcome

Yes ........in a half hearted way. Though I don't know if it would be considered "insane" in all instances. If the mistake one is making is something they can control then I would think it could at least be assessed as "stupidity" or "absent mindedness". In some instances making the same mistake might just be demonstrating a lack of ones skill. For instance........ You wouldn't say a carpenter was "insane" because he makes the mistake of repeatedly striking his finger with a hammer while he is driving nails. I think that the remark is a generalization, and doesn't apply to every situation.

Actually, what Einstein really said was "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." And yes, I would agree with his statement.

I strongly agree that Einstein could be right. It could be a very bad case of Obsessive/Compulsive disorder, it could be a severe psychosis where the person does not remember making the same mistake over and over or it could be a symptom of a person with a very bad self esteem etc.

I think it makes sense. Many people say that you learn from your mistakes. However if your making the same mistakes over and over, are you actually learning anything? I feel that one cannot move on from a mistake until something is learned so you do not make that mistake again. You move on to make another mistake, and learn from that. That's how experience in life is gained...

Sadly I must agree with Albert..I think we all know he is correct, but to agree with him is admit that we ourselves are insane cuz we get up every morning and go back to school or work over and over and over again... Just lilke a fly caught between two panes of glass..It keeps flying full speed into one pane and then the other and never stop til it drops down dead in between both panes... I N S A N E...

Yeah, too many people hear the word insanity and think extremes it's just a deviation from normal healthy human mental function.

All that means is that you should be able to draw logical deductions from prior experience and apply them to the future. It's a nice statement of the scientific attitude. We constantly refine our conceptions and procedures as we work based on observation and experiment.

If you quote Einstein, please name a reference. I don't recall any quote like this from Albert Einstein. I agree with the core of the thought.

Well, either insanity or plain stupidly. One should learn from their mistakes so as not to keep repeating them. God bless
