Only if they choose to. I don't think they should be held legally responsible for something that their son did. That is why children should not have sex. They cannot be responsible for the consequences of their actions. The boy should be held responsible, enforceable when he turns 18.

If the boy could not help out with the financial aspects of raising the child all the help that you can get should be accepted. Raising a child is expensive and very hard. I have 4 kids and I am getting help from everywhere. I am grateful for all the help I can get, so my children do not have to miss out on anything.

The father of the child is the one responsible for the financial help. If he needs to go grovel in front of Dad and Mom for funds, then that's his issue. He could get a job. He could keep his peenie in his pants until he is responsible enough to fund his efforts.
