I guess it depends on which native Americans you're talking about, and what lands they want.

In Australia the aboriginals have successfully sued and gained territory back. I don't see why the same wouldn't apply for American aboriginals.

Of course, in my home country, aboriginals, such as the Saami (although I really don't know how they are "more" aboriginal than other Finns) don't so much claim actual land, as they are nomadic in nature. I suppose there are government checks in place that the land which the Saami need isn't destroyed. (not that that's really an issue, seeing as 80 percent of our land is forest).

They have plenty of land. The ones still around are descendants of the first squatters here. I remind you that most of their land was purchased under treaties. The lucky few left have it made. They Are immigrants too. They never paid a dime for any land. The white man Paid money to people who never bought it in the first place.

That's always been one of my quirks. I know it was our ancestors, not us personally, that did what they did. I wish they hadn't. I think Europeans screwed up North America by coming here and if I were a 'red' man, I'd be mad as hell.

To answer your question, I would bet there's a 'provision' written in a document somewhere to make it illegal for American Indians to reclaim their land that was rightfully theirs

Nice thought but I don't think there is enough of one tribe to fight, unless they were to unite as one and then fight for more land than the crap they have now.....But that is how man is "Take Take Take" and never give to the ones who really deserve it

What's done is done. Whether it was fair or not is lost in history. If people fought over wrongs that were committed hundreds of years ago, then the world and mankind would be doomed to never-ending war.
